Perspective | Right to Self-determination doesn’t require Nigeria’s permission

Unfortunately for Buhari and his co-travelers in the fast sinking ship of one-Nigeria-by-all-means, the right to self-determination now being exercised by the Peoples of the Lower Niger (Eastern Nigeria plus, or Greater Biafra, if you like), does not require the permission of Nigeria or the Caliphate hegemons as he probably thinks in error, neither will he find a large retinue, willing to go drown with him in the Atlantic since the Yoruba now know better after Abiola, not with the Middle Belt, being slaughtered house to house from Plateau to Benue, to Taraba, Kogi and elsewhere, remain willing-tools like Yakubu Gowon, Theophylus Danjuma and Joseph Garba were in the 1966-70 bygone era nor will the Niger-Delta/SouthSouth remain in the unholy alliance with the Caliphate after the fate of Dappa Biriye, Isaac Borough and Kenule Saro-Wiwa .

In October 1960, as the uninitiated clinked champagne glasses celebrating what was sold to them as “Independence”, Ahmadu Bello , the then Premier of the defunct Norther Region of Nigeria, whilst celebrating something entirely different, Declared to his lieutenants (including Muhammadu Buhari) that:
” THE NEW NATION CALLED NIGERIA SHOULD BE AN ESTATE OF OUR GREAT-GRANDFATHER, UTHMAN DAN FODIO. WE MUST RUTHLESSLY PREVENT A CHANGE OF POWER. WE USE TGE MINORITIES OF THE NORTH AS WILLING TOOLS AND THE SOUTH AS A CONQUERED TERRITORY AND NEVER ALLOW THEM TO RULE OVER US. AND NEVER ALLOW THEM TO HAVE CONTROL OVER THEIR FUTURE” Parrot Newspaper, 12th October, 1960.

The circumstances of the Coup of July 29, 1966 by the political scions of Ahmadu Bello, with the massive pogroms visited upon the East and the ruthless genocidal war against Biafra as well as the consequential Constitutional arrangements imposed between 1966 and 1999 on Nigeria by the aforementioned political scions of Ahmadu Bello, presents a stark materialization of the aforementioned 1960 Battlecsript and Mission Statement.

It is no wonder we would hear Lawal Kaita declare in 2010 that the North would make Nigeria ungovernable, should Jobathan or any other Southerner emerge President from the 2011 Electoral round, neither is it difficult to fathom the mindset of a President Muhammadu Buhari when he sits triumphantly in his Katsina homestead, arrogantly remind the rest of us that since the victory of Nigeria over Biafra in 1970, that the entire Territory, belonged to the North by virtue of that conquest and for which reason he would rather lead the rest of Nigeria to jump into the sea and drown, rather than watch the conquered slaves of Eastern Nigeria break free into independence!

Too late to hope that the barbaric Fulani brigandage will frighten the rest of Nigeria into submission.
