President Buhari calls knowdstone pelting report false.

President Muhammadu Buhari visited Kano on Monday, amid reports of a stone-pelting incident in the Hotoro area of the city. The President condemned the incident, calling it a “minor” matter that should be condemned by all well-meaning citizens.

According to law enforcement agencies, the incident was a clash between the Kano Road Transport Authority (KAROTA) and thugs hired by a yet-to-be identified group.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, 31 January 2023, the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the President, Mr. Garuba Shehu claims that the clash took place when the President was being treated to a banquet at the Government House, well after he had finished commissioning various projects.

Mr, Shehu added that the President was in Kano to work on the development, safety, and security of the citizens and the people of Kano were appreciative of his efforts and the progress the state and the nation are making under his leadership.

He observed that the opposition has attempted to malign the image of the President and the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates in the upcoming elections and declared that the opposition’s divisive rhetoric and wedge-driving activities are not expected to lead to their victory.

“A leading opposition party, which controls 14 states, is predicted to face defeat in the elections, with only eight or nine states in tow. The party should look inward to address the reasons for its flagging campaign.

“According to a video of the incident, the stone-pelters were innocent children sponsored by politicians and terrorist sympathizers.

“There is no place for violence in a democracy, and it is the duty of political, social, and religious leaders to correct the misled youth and steer them away from violence, which is detrimental to their future.

“The President’s command and respect remain intact in Kano. Those who oppose the border closure must realize that the 60-70 integrated rice mills in the city would not exist if the President had allowed unrestricted smuggling to continue,” the presidential spokesman further stated.

In conclusion, the opposition party should use the electioneering period to put forth their views in a democratic manner. Problems can be resolved through peaceful means, and there is no place for stone-pelting, arson, or unruly behavior in a democracy.
