Following an operation in Kaduna on January 20, 2024, Bello Mohammed, a 28-year-old suspect from Zamfara State, was taken into custody. The Tafa Divisional Police Officer (DPO) organised an operation against a hotel in Tafa Area, Kaduna, based on information that was obtained. There, Bello was captured along with ₦2.25 million, which was probably the proceeds from ransoms sought from local kidnapping victims.
In a twist to the narrative, Bello attempted to bribe the DPO with a staggering ₦1 million to secure his release. Remarkably, the DPO, identified as SP Idris Ibrahim, displayed unwavering integrity, rejecting the bribe and ensuring the suspect faced the full extent of the law.
Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun has lauded the dedication and professionalism exhibited by DPO Idris Ibrahim in handling the case. The IGP has directed that Bello Mohammed be handed over to the Directorate of Intelligence Response Team (DFI-IRT) in Abuja for meticulous investigations. The suspect, who has also disclosed the involvement of five neutralized bandits in Kaduna, is actively cooperating with the ongoing police investigations.
