Major General Ibrahim Ali, who is the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division Nigerian Army and Theatre Commander Joint Task Force (JTF) Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), has declared open a Joint Peace Summit organized to sensitize communities in Plateau State on the need for peaceful coexistence in the country.
Maj. Gen. Ali, while speaking at the summit, declared that the active participation of citizens in the security of their immediate communities is necessary to ending criminalities and senseless clashes in the state.
The GOC advised that the recently recorded achievements in curtailing attacks must be consolidated and warned that any attempt by crisis merchants to reverse the gains of these achievements will not be condoned.
Gen Ali, amazed by the large attendance, declared that there is time for everything in life and the time for peace in Plateau State has come.
Gen. Ali commended the 26-man Committee led by Justice Daniel Longji (Rtd), which was formed by OPSH to implement the 36-man Committee on Peace Recommendations and noted that the seminar, which has the significance of upscaling the efforts of OPSH in ensuring remarkable peace and unity in the state, was organized to enlighten the citizens on sensitive security issues towards agreeing on the way forward.
Justice Daniel Longji (Rtd), Chairman of 26-man peace implementation committee, stated in his opening remarks that peace is a catalyst for progress and development and described the sensitization seminar as another strategy to achieving peaceful resolution between communities and religious groups.
Justice Longji (Rtd) lauded the untiring efforts of Commander Operation SAFE HAVEN in ensuring lasting peace is achieved across board and revealed that the seminar would help participants build capacity for immediate and future engagements.
The Plateau State Governor, who was represented by Mr. Gayi Timothy Gayi, Director of Administration, Plateau Peace Building Agency, commended the OPSH for its sustained programme on peace and unity of the state and urged aggrieved persons to forgive one another and work together on the path of peace.
Paper presentations on Trust and peaceful core existence by notable resource persons and group photograph were the highlights of the event.
