ABUJA – The APC Senator representing Kogi West, Dino Melaye was arraigned before an Abuja High Court on a two-count charge marked, CR/106/18 which was filed by the Office of the Attorney General of Nigeria on January 31, 2018. He was alleged to have provided a false information to the police about an assassination attempt on his life on April 15, 2017 which incriminated Edward Onoja David, the Chief of Staff to Kogi State Governor.
The charge stated that the Nigerian Police discovered in the course of investigation that Senator Dino Melaye was attempting to frame up some persons with his claim. The controversial senator who was represented in Court by his lawyer, Mr Ricky Tarfa, SAN, however pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge. His lawyer prayed the court to release him on bail, pending the hearing and determination of the case as the senator will be available to face his trial.
The trial Judge, Justice Olasumbo Goodluck granted the bail application in spite of opposition from the Attorney General’s office. The bail condition was set at N100,000 and a surety who must be a civil servant not below Grade Level 14.
