Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has again doubled down on the grandstanding he began on Sunday 31 December, 2023 when he insensitively declared victory, after the magnanimity of Nigerian President Bola Tinubu saved him from an already perfected impeachment plot.
According to Gov. Fubara, who spoke boastfully and defiantly in the presence of former Rivers State Governor Peter Odili, he did not embrace the peace accord brokered by President Tinubu out of fear. He declared that his administration took the decision to promote peace in the state and respect elders.
The declaration was made when the Rivers state governor addressed attendees at a state banquet which held at the Government House Port Harcourt on Monday 1 January, 2024 to celebrate the new year.
While wishing residence of Rivers State a fruitful and prosperous 2024, he urged them to support the President Tinibu peace initiative, as any political conflict that has the potential of limiting the developmental prospects of the state would not find his involvement.
In his words: “Every decision that we’ve taken is not borne out of fear but because we have the interest of our people and we have respect for elders.”
“I’m appealing to everyone of us to embrace the peace. We need this peace because our intention for the state is not for our personal interest but that of the development of the state.โ
Gov. Fubara, who got a heap of praise from the Secretary to the State Government, Tammy Danagogo, also pledged to leave behind a unity and development legacy, and not one of political apprehension.
The Secretary to the State Government, who acted as the governorโs cheerleader and poured loads of encomiums on him, claimed in his welcome address that Gov. Fubara remained calculated, humble, honest, hardworking and focused in his governance responsibilities throughout the political crisis in the state.
