Victoria Island, Lagos โ In a compelling address by Tony Nnadi, representing the NINAS Secretariat, a clarion call has been issued for the swift disposal of Nigeria’s ailing 1999 Constitution. Describing it as a “decaying carcass,” Nnadi warns that failure to act urgently could result in a regional social and political epidemic with far-reaching implications.

After two decades of relentless criticism and opposition against the 1999 Constitution, Nnadi asserts that the time for debate is over, and the constitution lies defeated and on its deathbed. He argues that the toxic remnants of this constitution, emitting what is perceived as a systemic failure, pose a severe threat to political and social stability within the West African Sub-Region and beyond.
The statement contends that Nigeria’s current union is precariously built upon the shaky foundation of the 1999 Constitution, enforcing unitary terms that have led to the nation’s decline and internal strife. With urgency, Nnadi invites the people of Nigeria to reject this fraudulent constitution and demand the initiation of an immediate transitioning process for union reconfiguration, as proposed by the NINAS Constitutional Force Majeure.
As the momentum to decommission the 1999 Constitution grows, Nnadi highlights the desperation in Abuja, resulting in what he terms “more egregious blunders” by the enforcers of unitary Nigeria. The NINAS Alliance aims to maintain pressure on this constitution, asserting control while holding its enforcers in check.
Amidst a flurry of dubious constitution amendments proposed by the National Assembly, Nnadi emphasizes that the resolution of the Nigerian Union Dispute necessitates not just amendments but the comprehensive decommissioning of the fraudulent constitution and a reset of the union. He underscores that the power for such a rework exclusively vests in the constituent peoples of Nigeria as an incident of their sovereignty.
Nnadi’s urgent call serves as a stark warning, positioning Nigeria at a critical juncture where decisive action is imperative to avoid the looming political and social upheaval that may reverberate beyond its borders.
