Elekahia Internal Roads to Be Completed in 6 Months, George-Kelly Says at Flag-off By Orbih

Elekahia internal roads to be completed in six months, Rivers Works Commissioner says at flag-off by PDP National Vice Chairman South South, Chief Dan Orbih. Wednesday, 7 December 2022.

The construction of Elekahia Internal Roads by the Governor Nyesom Wike-led Rivers State Government was flagged-off on Wednesday, 7 December 2022 at Elekahia Town in the Port Harcourt Local Government of the State.

According to Dr. George-Kelly D. Alabo, the Honourable Commissioner for Works, Rivers State, the Elekahia Internal Roads consists of 28 roads and the project is expected to be completed in six months. The Commissioner disclosed this while providing the project description at the flag-off ceremony.

“This project consists of 28 separate roads, which make up Elekahia Internal Roads. The total length of the 28 roads is approximately 9.4 kilometres, with an average width of 7 metres.

“The expected completion time for this project is six months. The contractor was duly mobilised about a month ago. 15 out of the 28 roads will be fresh construction while 13 will involve rehabilitation and overlaying.

“The entirety of them will have to do with fresh drains construction and making good of the defective existing drains.

“The asphatic concrete pavement is going to be binder course and wearing course because that is our standard as a government and a ministry,” the Commissioner added.

The chief host of the event, Governor Nyesom Wike said some political propagandists were telling Elekahia people that he has abandoned them, but he thank God that he has disappointed the propagandists with the flag-off of the construction of the project.

“I am sure many of you are aware of the propaganda they were spreading that I was not going to do anything for Elekahia people. Today that we are starting the project, those people have ran to Abuja. I don’t just start project because I want to make political statement, I commence project I know I can complete, this is why I do them at my own time after considering many factors.

“There is no way I will do roads in the entire Rebisi and I will abandon Elekahia, it is not possible. This place is my home, I know Elekahia very well and you all know me. Development for the people is paramount to me. These roads most be motorable before I leave office. This project will boost economic activities in this area when completed,” the Governor stated.

Chief Dan Orbih who was the Special Guest of Honour at the flag-off ceremony said Governor Nyesom Wike has done well for Rivers people.

“You have done well for your people, every passing day it is either project commissioning or flag-off of the construction of yet another project in different local government area in Rivers State, this is unprecedented.

“Under our presidential system of government, presidents and governors are elected for a period of four years, and if they seek reelection and consequently get reelected, they spend another four years in office, in most cases, in their last years, they hardly do anything tangible. Governor Wike has proven that you can actually start well and end strong,” he said.
