For the umpteenth time, Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike pledges to continue providing good governance and executing project till the last day of his administration.
He said Rivers people have every reason to celebrate because his administration has performed excellently. The governor advised his political adversaries who are not happy about the project commissioning to be prepared to witness such activities till the last day of his administration.
Governor Wike reiterated the pledge not to abandon governance, at the commissioning ceremony of Rukpakwulusi-Eliogbolo New Layout Road project, at Rukpakwulusi Community, Obio/Akpor on Saturday 26 November, 2022.
“Good governance must show that the people are happy with the policies, programmes, and actions of the government. We are happy that the people are happy.
“I want to commend the people of these communities for supporting the indigenous contractor we used for this project.
“We are celebrating and we have every reason to do so because before we came on board, they said we will not have money to pay salaries, not to talk of doing projects. Today we are not only paying salaries, we are not only paying pensions, we are not only paying gratuities, we are doing projects in every part of the state, we should celebrate.
“To the glory of God, we have built the best campus of Nigerian Law School. We have constructed 30km dual carriageway from Saakpenwa to Kono in Ogoni. By the grace of God, we are going to commission the 1st phase of Trans-Kalabari Road. We have concluded the Opobo section of the Unity Road and we are currently working on the Andoni section. We have constructed road from Chokocho to Igbodo in Etche.
“We are not making noise, we are happy and the people are happy with what we have used there money to do. We are going home fulfilled that we have not disappointed the people. We will continue to execute projects till our last day in office,” the Governor added.
Providing the project description, the Honourable Commissioner for Works, Dr. George-Kelly D. Alabo, FNIQS said the project was started about a year ago and was completed according to the scope.
“This project was started slightly over 12 months ago. It consists of 16 streets, some of them are long while some are short. They are all in Rukpakwulusi and Eliogbolo communities.
“The total length of the road is 6km, the average width of the drains is 6 metres, the total length of drains is 6000 metres. The nature of the road is flexible pavement, we have 150mm of stone base thickness, 50mm of binder course and 50mm of wearing course,” the Commissioner stated.
