In a groundbreaking move to revolutionize support for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs), Vice President Kashim Shettima has inaugurated the Local Implementation Committee of the National Philanthropic Office (NPO), asserting that the initiative will thrive under the visionary leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
During the inauguration ceremony at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, Vice President Shettima expressed unshakable confidence in President Tinubu’s commitment to societal betterment, and eemphasized that the enduring spirit of giving back to the citizens is a solid guarantee for the NPO’s monumental success and impact.
The NPO is a trailblazing initiative propelled entirely by the private sector with robust government support, and it aligns with President Tinubu’s mission to secure alternative funding for critical economic programs, particularly the SMEs. This novel approach, according to the government, aims to foster collaboration with the private sector to catalyze growth in Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises, driving economic development.
The mandate of the NPO includes establishing 12 industrial value-chain hubs and accelerators for startups and small businesses strategically positioned across the nation’s six geopolitical zones.
In his address titled, “Philanthropy and Our Shared Responsibilities,” VP Shettima unveiled the grand ambition of the NPO, outlining plans to raise an impressive $200 million in grants and non-financial investments. This substantial fund will be marshalled through both local and international collaborations, channeling support to startups within key sectors of Nigeria’s vibrant MSMEs space, crucial for job creation and economic growth.
“Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, this initiative proposes to raise $200m in grants and non-financial investment, through local and international teams, to provide support to start-ups in the key sectors within the MSMEs space that drive job creation in Nigeria,” he declared.
As the NPO takes centre stage, Nigeria anticipates a new era of economic empowerment and entrepreneurship, fuelled by the strategic alliance between the private sector and the government under the visionary leadership of President Tinubu. The Atlantic Post will closely monitor this transformative initiative, keeping Nigerians abreast of the monumental strides in reshaping the nation’s economic landscape.
