Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, has accused the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of anti-party behaviour.
The governor was speaking at the state’s PDP campaign flag-off rally in Etche Local Government Area when he made the claim.
Wike stated that instead of supporting the PDP in Rivers, which has taken some political parties to court over noncompliance with INEC regulations and laws, the national leadership of the party has asked lawyers handling the cases to dissociate themselves.
He called the act anti-party and warned that the PDP in Rivers will show the national leadership what anti-party truly is.
Governor Wike stressed that the upcoming election is a battle that must be won and urged the people of Etche to collect their remaining Permanent Voters Cards and vote for all PDP candidates in the state.
The governor emphasized that the PDP in Rivers is fully prepared for the election and will secure winning votes.
He thanked the people of Etche for their support and reminded them of the promises made by the PDP controlled state government, which have been kept since 2015.
The PDP governorship candidate, Sir Siminialayi Fubara, also spoke at the rally, seeking bulk votes from Etche residents. He promised to ensure sustained regular payment of workers, prevent closure of courts in the state, and protect assets owned by the state from being sold to cronies.
Fubara expressed confidence in his competence and the understanding of the new Rivers Vision, which serves as the foundation for his administration.
Other PDP leaders, including the state chairman, former council chairman, and the senatorial candidate, also spoke at the rally, accepting responsibility for flying the party’s flag and pledging to provide quality representation.
Governor Wike had earlier visited the king of Etche Land to inform him of the PDP campaign flag-off in the area.
