PORT HARCOURT, Rivers โ In a dramatic turn of events, the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Martin Chike Amaewhule, has launched a scathing condemnation of Governor Siminialayi Fubara’s alleged plot to demolish the recently constructed Rivers State House of Assembly quarters. The Speaker’s impassioned address to the media sheds light on what appears to be a brewing power struggle between the executive and legislative arms of the state government.

According to Speaker Amaewhule, the citizens of Rivers State were left reeling in disbelief as Governor Fubara purportedly made a brazen attempt to storm the Assembly quarters with intentions to raze the premises to the ground. This audacious move, the Speaker asserts, underscores a troubling trend wherein the state’s highest executive authority flouts the very laws and principles it is sworn to uphold.
The Assembly quarters, described by Speaker Amaewhule as one of the finest in the nation, stands as a testament to the vision and leadership of the state’s former governor, His Excellency, Nyesom Wike. Commissioned by Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, the quarters symbolize a beacon of progress and stability in the heart of Port Harcourt.
Expressing deep disappointment at Governor Fubara’s alleged interference, Speaker Amaewhule emphasized that the Assembly quarters were intended for the exclusive use of Members of the House of Assembly, not the executive branch. The Speaker’s stern words reflect a growing sentiment of dismay and frustration among legislators who view the governor’s actions as a direct affront to the sanctity of democratic institutions.
“We are witnessing a gross violation of our constitutional rights and democratic principles,” declared Speaker Amaewhule. “Governor Fubara’s disregard for due process and the rule of law is nothing short of an assault on our democracy.”
In a startling revelation, Speaker Amaewhule accused Governor Fubara of orchestrating a coordinated attack on the official residences of Assembly Members, deploying thugs to intimidate and harass elected representatives. The Speaker’s allegations paint a disturbing picture of executive overreach and blatant disregard for the separation of powers.
As tensions escalate, Speaker Amaewhule defiantly declared that Members of the 10th Rivers State House of Assembly refuse to be intimidated or silenced. Undeterred by the governor’s purported vendetta, legislators remain steadfast in their commitment to upholding the principles of good governance and accountability.
“While Governor Fubara seeks to sow chaos and division, we, the Members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, stand united in our resolve to serve the people and uphold the integrity of our institution,” affirmed Speaker Amaewhule.
In the face of mounting controversy and uncertainty, one thing remains abundantly clear: the battle for the soul of Rivers State rages on, with the fate of the Assembly quarters hanging in the balance.
For now, all eyes are on the corridors of power in Port Harcourt, where political intrigue and brinkmanship threaten to plunge the state into a state of turmoil. As the drama unfolds, one question looms large: will justice prevail, or will the forces of tyranny triumph?
Only time will tell.
