On Saturday, 28 January 2023, the Joint Task Force North East (OPHK) in Maimalari Cantonment witnessed a Change of Command ceremony between Major General Christopher Musa and Major General Ibrahim Ali.
Major General Ali officially took over as the 12th Theatre Commander of OPHK, succeeding Major General Musa who will now be heading the Headquarters Infantry Corp Centre as the Commander Infantry Corp.
The ceremony, which was attended by high-ranking military officials including the Deputy TC, Major General KA Isoni, GOC 7 Division, and various sector and component commanders, began with remarks from the outgoing Theatre Commander, Major General Musa.
He expressed his appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya for the opportunity to serve as Theatre Commander of OPHK and thanked all commanders, officers, and troops of OPHK for their unwavering loyalty and commitment to their duties, which led to the recent successes against terrorist groups in the region.
General Musa also urged the troops to continue their efforts in achieving the mandates of the operation, stating that the country is counting on them to bring an end to the war against insurgency.
He also called on the troops to extend the same cooperation, support, and determination shown to him to his successor, Major General Ali.
In his own remarks, Major General Ali thanked his predecessor for the legacies he was leaving behind and pledged to build upon them in the ongoing fight against insurgents.
He emphasized the need for all hands to be on deck in order to bring an end to terrorism in the region.
The climax of the ceremony included the presentation of a Commendation letter to LCpl Timothy Yakubu for his acts of gallantry in recent engagements against terrorist groups, which led to the recovery of an MRAP, weapons, and the saving of the lives of his colleagues.
The ceremony also featured the signing of Handing and Taking over notes, the decoration of Major General Ali with the OPHK insignia, the presentation of the Command Flag, an inspection of quarter guards, and a farewell address to the troops.
Overall, the Change of Command ceremony was a solemn and ceremonious occasion, marking the passing of leadership from one capable leader to another and a reaffirmation of the Nigerian Army’s commitment to bring an end to the insurgency in the region.
