The Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) achieved notable victories from February 10 to 20 in the Lake Chad basin, including successful offensives, terrorist surrenders, arms interception, and a strategic air strike. Despite sacrifices, the MNJTF remains committed to restoring peace and fostering growth in the region, combining military action with collaborative community support.

MAIDUGURI, Borno โ€” From February 10 to February 20, 2024, the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) achieved notable victories in its aggressive effort to destroy terrorism in the Lake Chad basin. Together, the four MNJTF sectors have successfully launched offensives, secured the surrender of terrorists, and intercepted a significant arms shipment meant for rebels.

Notable Engagements:

Sector 1 Triumph: Troops in Mora, Cameroon, achieved a decisive victory at Soueram, neutralizing two Boko Haram terrorists and seizing 92 linked ammunition belts, disrupting the terror group’s supply lines.

Surrenders: In Litri, Chad, and Doron Baga, Nigeria, two Boko Haram members each surrendered to troops in Sectors 2 and 3 on February 10th and 19th, respectively, contributing to the recovery of arms and ammunition.

Sector 2 Offensive: Sector 2 Bagasola, Chad, executed high-impact offensives at Tchokou, Lake Chad Island, inflicting casualties on Boko Haram elements. On February 19, 2024, separate operations yielded the seizure of explosives and supplies for logistics.

Successful Air Strike: On February 20, the Chadian Air Force launched a strategic air strike against Boko Haram strongholds located around the southern edge of Lake Chad. As a result, multiple terrorists were neutralised and their equipment was destroyed.

Arms Smuggling Disruption: In Sector 4 Diffa, Niger Republic, troops thwarted an arms smuggling attempt near the Niger-Chad borderline on February 10th, confiscating a substantial arms cache, including AK-47 rifles, magazines, and ammunition.
Sacrifices Made:

Sadly, during these operations, two soldiersโ€”one from Nigeria and one from Chadโ€”paid the ultimate price, while three more were hurt. We salute their heroism and send our condolences to their families.

MNJTF’s Commitment:

Lieutenant Colonel Abubakar Abdullahi, Chief of Military Public Information, reaffirmed the MNJTF’s commitment to restoring peace, fostering economic growth, and ensuring free movement within the Lake Chad basin. These recent achievements underscore the task force’s dedication in confronting the challenges posed by terrorist activities, combining military action with collaborative efforts to support affected communities.
