Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has invoked the name of God against all the contending challenges that his administration and him face. He declared that they have been surrendered to God with the confidence that he will continue to intervene in a manner that will shock the world.
Shortly after the Chief of Staff, Government House, and five Special Advisers were sworn in on Monday at the Executive Chambers of Government House in Port Harcourt, Sir Fubara made the above statement.
The following people were sworn in: Ohia Prince, Dr. Darlington Orji, Solomon Abel Eke, Barr Aminayanasam Fiberesima, Engr. Deeyah Bariene, and Rt. Hon. Ehie Edison as Chief of Staff, Government House.
According to Governor Fubara, the appointment of these officials shows that tangible mechanisms are being put in place to aid in problem-solving, since the goal of governance is to provide services even in the face of adversity.
The governor asked them to accept their appointment as a duty, seize the opportunity to improve government, and prove that they are genuinely respectable members of the State.
“Let me reiterate: even in your communities, don’t use this position to incite conflict with anyone. I want to talk to you and I will talk to you about how there is nothing that God is not able to accomplish.”
“Your strength is not the reason you prevailed in combat. That is God’s grace. Whoever you are, when God promises it won’t happen again, it stops there. No, I’m not appointing you today because I want you to go fight in your respective areas.”
We have given God control over our circumstances, and God will work it out in a way that will shock the entire world and prove to everyone that God is God at all times. Please don’t use this job as a launching pad to begin stalking others. Follow your conscience.”
Governor Fubara cautioned that if the commissioners who were sworn in last week try to work against his administration to ruin it, there will be consequences. He also urged the recently swore in to help the government in a way that will promote its image.
Let me also use this opportunity to instruct the Secretary of the State Government (SSG) to allocate duties to the commissioners who were sworn in last week. Please allow the SSG to return just the present members of the group to their previous offices. I’d like to include that in my birthday present to you.
“Let me add, though, that returning to your former position does not give you the right to use it to overthrow my government. It’s not about me, whatever it is that you’re doing. It all comes down to what you can stand behind and be proud of for a long time afterwards.”
