Security forces in Rivers State, Nigeria, successfully thwarted multiple criminal plots, apprehending bombers and kidnappers while dismantling an illegal oil refining network. Key operations led to the seizure of explosives, weapons, and the rescue of victims. Law enforcement’s coordinated efforts underscore their commitment to public safety and economic stability.

PORT HARCOURT, Nigeria — In a dramatic display of operational prowess, security forces in Rivers State have dismantled a series of nefarious plots aimed at destabilising public safety and economic assets.

In what appears to be a meticulously coordinated crackdown, authorities arrested two suspected bombers in the Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area, seizing four dynamites alongside critical explosive-making materials, including switches and detonating pads.

This decisive action has undoubtedly forestalled an imminent attack and serves as a stark reminder that law enforcement remains unyielding in its commitment to national security.

The recent operations, unfolding over a series of coordinated raids, underscore the determination of security operatives to clamp down on organised criminality in the state.

On March 19, 2025, during an intense sweep in Onelga Local Government Area, officers intercepted the dangerous duo in possession of not only the explosives but also ancillary devices that could have magnified the scale of the planned devastation.

The incident highlights the continuous threat posed by insurgent elements and criminal syndicates exploiting the vulnerabilities within our borders.

In another brazen operation, security forces raided a kidnappers’ hideout along the Omoku-Ahoada section of the East Road in Ahoada East Local Government Area on March 21, 2025.

Eight suspects, believed to be herdsmen involved in abductions and other related criminal activities, were apprehended. This raid, executed at approximately 7:10am, resulted in the successful rescue of six victims.

Additionally, officers recovered a cache of illicit arms including two English-made pump action guns, two locally manufactured pistols, four single-barrel guns, several rounds of ammunition, and communication devices—an alarming arsenal that signals the organised nature of these criminal networks.

The state’s security narrative took another sensational turn when vandals attempting to destroy a critical oil pipeline in Aluu, Ikwerre Local Government Area met a fatal end.

According to State Commissioner of Police Olugbenga Adepoju, the vandals inadvertently detonated the pipeline during their misguided assault, underscoring the destructive potential of unregulated and misguided militancy.

“Over the past week, our agencies have preempted multiple criminal endeavours. Our swift intervention on March 16, 2025, prevented what could have been an extensive infrastructural catastrophe,” Commissioner Adepoju declared during a press briefing in Port Harcourt.

The operation’s comprehensive nature extended to the dismantling of an illegal oil refining network in Onelga Local Government Area.

Security forces reportedly destroyed 30 illicit refining sites, 55 ovens, 20 reservoirs, 50 dug-out pits, along with vast quantities of stolen crude oil and refined diesel.

Such operations not only mitigate immediate threats but also serve as a robust deterrent against future attempts to undermine our nation’s economic stability.

As the situation evolves, Commissioner Adepoju lauded the ‘Joint Patrol Operations’ executed in tandem with the police, Armed Forces, and other security agencies.

A newly established State Operations Room now facilitates real-time surveillance and rapid response mechanisms, with a forthcoming week-long operation targeting vehicles with unregistered or fraudulent number plates—a move designed to stymie the transport of illegal materials.

This relentless crackdown reinforces the resolute message that Rivers State, and indeed the nation, will not be intimidated by criminal elements.

The robust, coordinated response by security forces is a testament to their unyielding commitment to protecting the state’s assets and ensuring the safety of its citizens.

The public is urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to further strengthen this formidable security apparatus.
