In a groundbreaking effort to improve the security situation in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the recently launched Special Intervention Squad (SIS) by the Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun has secured a major victory. Through collaborative efforts with several law enforcement units, including the Department of Force Intelligence – Intelligence Response Team (DFI-IRT), the FCT Command Anti-Violent Crimes Section, and the Anti-kidnapping Section, the Squad has successfully apprehended sixteen notorious criminals.

Today’s parade showcased the capture of three Bwari-based kidnappers – Idris Ishaku, Bala Umar, and Dahiru Salisu – aged 27, responsible for a series of armed robberies and kidnappings in the Bwari Local Government Area and other parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. The combined efforts of law enforcement also led to the arrest of thirteen other suspects involved in various criminal activities.

One remarkable achievement involved the foiling of a kidnap plot, leading to the arrest of the Bwari-based kidnappers and the recovery of weapons from them. In a proactive move triggered by the abduction of a victim from his residence along with his Hilux Van, the Police Operatives traced the criminals to Kaduna, where a dramatic rescue unfolded. The suspects, who had earlier faced charges in November 2023, continued their criminal activities while on bail.

Additionally, the Department of Force Intelligence – Intelligence Response Team (DFI-IRT) successfully intercepted Everest Magaji, a notorious gunrunner, during negotiations with bandits for the illegal purchase and supply of firearms and ammunition. The operation resulted in the recovery of eleven pistols and two pump-action guns.

These remarkable achievements underscore the dedication of the Nigeria Police Force under the leadership of IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun to make the country a safer place. The IGP encourages citizens to remain vigilant, report any suspicious activities promptly, and assures continued efforts to ensure the safety of all residents.

This significant stride confirms the commitment of law enforcement agencies to confront crime toughly and create a secure nation for its citizens. Also, the vigorous pursuit of criminals sends a strong signal to criminals that their nefarious activities will not go unpunished or unchecked under the watchful eyes of the SIS.
