The Super Eagles of Nigeria walloped their Sudanese counterparts 3-1 in a Group D encounter at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) at Garoua, Cameroon to progress to the knockout stage of the competition.

A third minute goal from winger Samuel Chukwueze provided a positive start and Taiwo Awoniyi netted the Super Eagles’ second on the stroke of half-time.

It took Moses Simon just 30 seconds of the second half to add a third, but Sudan pulled a goal back with a fortuitous penalty, converted by Walieldin Khedr with 20 minutes left.

The result meant Nigeria stay top of Group D and ensured that they progress to the knockout phase with a second successive victory.

The Super Eagles now have six points from their opening two games, after beating Egypt by a lone goal on Tuesday, while Sudan have one point.

Egypt and Guinea Bissau play their second Group D game later on Saturday at the Roumde Adjia Stadium. (NAN)
