Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State paid heartfelt homage to the Nigerian Army, praising the troops for their steadfast commitment to reducing threats to the country’s security. As part of his operational tour of the 34 Artillery Brigade at Obinze Barracks in Owerri, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja made a courtesy visit to the Imo State Government House on Thursday, January 11, 2024, and made the commendation.

Governor Acknowledges Unceasing Efforts:

Governor Uzodinma highlighted the remarkable efforts of the troops in collaboration with other services and security agencies. He emphasized their tireless fight to restore peace and stability in Imo and neighboring states. The synergy, particularly under the Joint Task Force South East Operation UDOKA, played a crucial role in providing a secure environment for the recently concluded elections in the state.

Promise of Continued Support:

Governor Uzodinma expressed confidence in the troops and promised to support them in their efforts to build the state’s socioeconomic infrastructure, as well as the socioeconomic development of the South East and Nigeria overall. He also called on the Nigerian Army and other security agencies to step up their operations in the North East and North West to bring peace and stability back.

COAS’s Purposeful Visit:

COAS Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, during his visit, reiterated the significance of his tour to the 82 Division area of responsibility. He aimed to interact with the troops, assess their well-being, evaluate infrastructure, and gain firsthand information about ongoing operations.

Imo State and South East’s Transformation:

General Lagbaja acknowledged the positive transformation in Imo State and the South East, commending the people and the government for their cooperation and support. He stressed that the collaboration with the Nigerian Army, sister services, and other security agencies, following a whole-of-society approach, serves as a formidable antidote to security challenges in the region.

Commander’s Assurance to Troops:

Addressing the troops of the 34 Artillery Brigade, General Lagbaja charged them to remain focused on the constitutional objectives of the Nigerian Army. He assured them that their working and living conditions would continue to be a top priority under his command.

The visit underscores the collaborative efforts between the government and the military, fostering a secure environment for the citizens and promoting national stability.
