ABUJA, Nigeria – The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has been conducting widespread raids in many states in Nigeria as part of an ongoing crackdown on drug trafficking. These searches have resulted in the recovery of an astounding 44,948.1 kilogrammes (44.9 tonnes) of illicit substances and the arrest of several important suspects.

Targeting drug cartels and their illegal operations, NDLEA agents initiated coordinated operations in the states of Lagos, Edo, and Ondo. More than 7,687.8 kg of cannabis were burned in Ondo state alone, and five individuals were taken into custody. Thousands of kilogrammes of cannabis were destroyed and more individuals were arrested as a result of similar operations in the states of Edo and Ondo.

A well-planned search in Lagos produced the recovery of 10,534 kg of the powerful cannabis strain Ghanaian Loud and the confiscation of 11 cars connected to the narcotics syndicate. In addition, specific arrests were made, one of which involved the capture of Miracle Obi in possession of a stash of prohibited narcotics.

Not only did the NDLEA operate in the southwestern region, but it also reported major drug busts in Kaduna, Kano, Borno, and Abuja. A heroin and cocaine trafficking organisation was broken up in Kano, and significant amounts of cannabis and cocaine were found in Abuja after important leaders were apprehended.

Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd.), Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), acknowledged the outstanding work of the agency’s officers in all of its commands and their commitment to stopping drug addiction and trafficking. He praised the stepped-up lobbying efforts, which included sensitization seminars held across the country in motor parks, schools, marketplaces, and places of worship.

The NDLEA’s resolute measures demonstrate the agency’s dedication to reducing drug-related crimes and protecting communities from the harmful consequences of drugs. The NDLEA is unwavering in its goal of a drug-free Nigeria as the fight against drug misuse rages on.
