Inspector-General of Police Initiates Comprehensive Standard Insurance Policy
In a groundbreaking move that is aimed at bolstering the welfare of the personnel of the Nigeria Police Force and their families, Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun has taken a major step towards implementing a comprehensive standard insurance policy. The initiative is set to redefine the landscape of police welfare and ensure top-notch service delivery within the organisation.
The IGP demonstrated this commitment by hosting Mr. Sunday Thomas, the Commissioner for Insurance at the National Insurance Commission, at the Force Headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday, January 16, 2024. The meeting was a strategic collaboration that focused on establishing a robust insurance framework that is tailored to meet the unique needs of Police Officers and their families.
In a remarkable development, IGP Egbetokun presided over the distribution of insurance benefits totalling a staggering Two Billion, Eighty-Six Million, Eight Hundred and One Thousand, One Hundred and Forty-Four Naira, Seventy-Nine Kobo (N2,086,801,144.79k) on Thursday, January 18. The beneficiaries, which consisted of seven hundred and eighty-five (785) families and Next of Kin of deceased officers, were awarded benefits for the insurance policy years 2015/2016, 2017/2018, 2021/2022 under the Group Life Assurance Policy and the Inspector-General of Police Family Welfare Insurance Scheme for the year 2022/2023.
The poignant distribution ceremony, held at the Force Headquarters, could serve as a tangible demonstration of the Police Force’s unwavering commitment to supporting the families of officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
Cumulatively, the Nigeria Police Force, through the Force Insurance Office, has disbursed insurance benefits for Two Thousand, Five Hundred and Thirty-Three (2,533) deceased Police personnel. The total amount settled between June 2023 and the present stands at an impressive Six Billion, Thirteen Million, Forty-Three Thousand, Three Hundred and Twenty-Six Naira, Fifty-One Kobo (N6,013,043,326.51k).
IGP Egbetokun commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, while expressing his appreciation, for prioritizing police welfare and ensuring the timely release of premiums for deceased officers. He reiterated his administration’s unwavering commitment to sustaining efforts to promptly disburse insurance payments and other welfare benefits to the deserving beneficiaries.
