Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, who has been embroiled in a protracted impeachment battle with the River State House of Assembly, has given himself a pat on the back and scored his administration high on governance performance, claiming that his aim is to leave a positive legacy through impactful governance.
Governor Fubara expressed this while he was addressing attendees at the St. Cyprian’s Anglican Church, Port Harcourt Township on Sunday 13 January, 2024, during a thanksgiving and interdenominational church service event to commemorate the 2024 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration.
Governor’s Vision for Positive Legacy:
The embattled Rivers State governor, who had to demolish the state legislative building complex to subvert an already instituted impeachment process, emphasized the importance of addressing critical governance issues and fostering state development. He declared that his administration’s focus is to create a meaningful impact on the socioeconomic problems of the people of Rivers State, and that he aims to be remembered on a positive note for the transformation it brings.
Performance and Prayer:
“As a government, we are performing. My prayer is for the Almighty God to grant us the grace to perform in a manner that when we leave office, people will remember us positively, not for negative purposes,” Gov. Fubara remarked during the service.
Acknowledging Armed Forces:
Governor Fubara acknowledged the crucial role of security agencies and the armed forces. He praised their commitment and performance, noting that their dedicated service is what garners respect and celebration.
“It is not an easy thing for you to be on the stage just like we are today, and after performing, people will remember you. So, I am happy that we are all associated with the good performance of the armed forces,” said the governor.
Supporting the Armed Forces:
Expressing continuous support for the armed forces, Governor Fubara affirmed his commitment to both fallen heroes and those currently serving. He emphasized the importance of unity and protection of the country as the shared purpose.
“For us as a government, we will continue to give our support, not just to the fallen heroes as we are doing, but also to those who are alive to enable them to continue to defend the integrity of our country,” he added.
Bishop’s Call for Reflection and Support:
In his sermon, Bishop of the Diocese of Niger Delta, Rt. Rev. Emmanuel Oko-Jaja, called on the government, industry leaders, and all Nigerians to reflect on, honour, and support the military. The revered clergyman highlighted the soldiers’ positive traits, including patriotism, selfless sacrifice, and dedication to nation-building.
