Mr. Amaechi Onowu, a candidate for Chairman Anambra Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused another his main rival in the race, Mr. Ndubuisi Nwobu, popularly known as Ogbuka, of attempting to extort 13 Local Government Area party chairmen in the state.
Mr. Onowu made this allegation in the following statement which he personally signed on Monday, March 21.
“It has come to our notice that an Anambra PDP candidate for the forthcoming Anambra State PDP Congress, yesterday held a meeting in a hotel in Awka and asked the attendants who are the 13 LGA chairmen slated for a rerun of the Congress that they contribute N500,000 to settle some leaders in Abuja headquarters to smoothen the Congress of the party in the state.
“I make bold to state that the candidate is a mere aspirant seeking to become chairman of the party in the state and therefore has no locus standi to attempt to extort from any of the 13 LGA chairmen of any amount .
“If any aspirant or candidate wants to run for an election, he or she should do so with his or her own personal funds and not fleecing party faithfuls .
“Anambra state PDP has gone beyond the regular horse trading and tax collecting patterns of the past and it is time to set the records straight and position the party for what it has always been known for – power to the people and not power to a few who are only interested in lining their pockets.”
