MAKURDI, Benue – The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has taken a brave step in its substantial cybercrime campaign by apprehending 14 accused internet fraudsters during a raid on a covert “Yahoo Academy” in Makurdi, Benue State.

On Wednesday, February 14, 2024, the EFCC’s Makurdi Zonal Command carried out the operation after receiving reliable information that pointed them in the direction of a three-bedroom flat on Makurdi’s Achusa Road that was thought to be a training ground for would-be online scammers.
The arrested suspects, identified as Asongu Terungwa, Aese Sonter, Nyoosu Terungwa, John Kator, Udi Micheal Aodona, Terungu Mnyam, Iorwuese Terhide, Ule Francis, Imoter Gloor Emmanuel, Samuel Lubem, Wergba Tertamge, Erukaa Ephraim, Agenale Franklin, and Abechi Toryila, were apprehended in the course of the operation.
Law authorities seized a number of items during the raid, which were probably connected to their illegal activities. These items included laptops, ATM cards, cell phones, a Firman Generator, and a Toyota Corolla.
The suspects are currently being held while the investigations are being completed. Following that, they will face charges in court. The EFCC’s prompt response is indicative of their dedication to fighting cybercrime and destroying the infrastructure that facilitates these types of illegal activity.
