In a dynamic New Year address, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, the Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), set a compelling tone for the future, emphasizing a three-pronged agenda that aims to reshape the Commission’s focus and elevate its impact on Nigeria’s growth and development.

Against the backdrop of monstrous challenges faced in the preceding year, Chairman Olukoyede commended the resilience and divine grace that saw the EFCC through. Acknowledging his appointment in the latter part of 2023, he expressed gratitude to the dedicated EFCC team for their pivotal roles in stabilizing the system and initiating innovative policies.

The Chairman outlined the first plank of the agenda: a renewed focus on the EFCC’s mandate to drive economic development, create wealth, and generate job opportunities. Recognizing the crucial role the EFCC plays in Nigeria’s growth, Olukoyede urged all staff to align with this vision and contribute to stimulating the nation’s revenue profile.

The second plank revolves around responsible, accountable, and transparent governance at various levels, aiming to enhance Nigeria’s international image and attract foreign direct investments. Preventive mechanisms against corruption, adherence to the rule of law, and engaging the public are emphasized to achieve these objectives.

Olukoyede delved into the importance of a transactional credit system as a potent means of combating corruption and encouraged Nigerians in this area. He underscored the preventive modality as a focal point in the Commission’s new engagement, highlighted by the ongoing restructuring of its layers.

A notable development is the review of arrest and bail guidelines, aligning with international best practices in law enforcement. Olukoyede stressed the importance of adhering to the rule of law, emphasizing that the EFCC is a civilized anti-graft agency that embraces change.

Addressing concerns about discipline, integrity, and responsibility, the Chairman issued a stern warning against corruption within the Commission’s ranks. The Department of Internal Affairs has been directed to intensify monitoring, emphasizing the importance of preserving the Commission’s image.

Recognizing the need for staff welfare, Chairman Olukoyede hinted at forthcoming positive changes, promising smiles on the faces of EFCC staff across all commands in the new year. However, he reminded staff that with privilege comes responsibility, urging them to dignify the honor of being EFCC staff.

As the EFCC enters this new era under Chairman Olukoyede’s visionary leadership, the Atlantic Post will closely follow the implementation of these transformative policies, ensuring Nigerians stay informed about the Commission’s evolving role in the nation’s development.
