Expresses shock and sadness 24 hours after the tragic demise in California helicopter crash

In a delayed but heartfelt condolence, Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has expressed profound shock and sadness at the news of the demise of Dr. Herbert Wigwe, his wife Chizoba, son, and others in a helicopter crash near the Nevada border, USA, labelling the incident a monumental disaster.
Governor Fubara, representing his family, the State Government, and the people of Rivers State, extends heartfelt condolences to the bereaved Wigwe family. Despite the belated expression, he urged them to find comfort in God’s assurances of love and the outpouring of global sympathy during this period of deep pain and loss.
In a statement, Governor Fubara acknowledged the profound impact of these losses, emphasizing that Rivers State and indeed Nigeria will mourn the passing of an unassuming, iconic, and accomplished son of Isiokpo in Ikwerre Local Government Area.
“The state and the nation are in tears because it would be extremely difficult to understand this sweeping loss of a family involving a strong pillar, accomplished banker, and philanthropist with tentacles in the education sector,” notes the Governor, highlighting the significance of Wigwe’s contributions. He particularly emphasizes the importance of sustaining Wigwe University, which the late entrepreneur pioneered, ensuring it does not fade away.
Dr. Herbert Wigwe, a prominent figure in the African financial sector, gained recognition for his leadership in the Access Bank Group’s impressive growth. Additionally, he established Wigwe University in Isiokpo, headquarters of Ikwerre Local Government Area, with a faculty population comprising 60% locals and 40% expatriates.
The delayed condolence from Governor Fubara adds a poignant note to the already somber atmosphere surrounding the tragic incident. The Governor’s acknowledgment of the magnitude of the loss and the significance of Dr. Herbert Wigwe’s contributions underscores the profound impact this news has on the local and national landscape.
