In a front move to counter the current sit-at-home order in the South East, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), has strategically emphasised the need for important stakeholders to work together. On January 10, 2024, an appeal for unity was made while on an operational visit to the Nigerian Army (NA)’s 14 Brigade in Ohafia, Abia State.

Key Remarks from COAS:

General Lagbaja emphasised the value of cooperation, pointing out that it is essential to removing the illegal sit-at-home order that is affecting the area. He emphasised the beneficial effects that cooperation among interested parties could have on reestablishing order and boosting socioeconomic activity in the South.

In addition to expressing gratitude to the Abia State Government for its steadfast assistance, the COAS promised that the Nigerian Army and the state will continue to work together to address and reduce insecurity.

Governor Otti Recognises the Function of NA:

In addressing security challenges in Abia State, Governor Alex Otti praised the work of the Nigerian Army, sister services, and other security agencies. He complimented the combined efforts of the security forces for the favourable change he saw in the insurgency scene.

Governor Otti expressed his delight with Operation CRUSH, pointing out that the operation’s efficiency has resulted in a relative quiet around designated flashpoints.

The Visit of COAS to 14 Brigade Ohafia:

General Lagbaja gave the troops orders to give peace restoration in volatile areas top priority while he was at the 14 Brigade Ohafia Headquarters. He claimed that completing this duty is essential to restoring public trust and allowing people to go back to their regular lives fearlessly.

General Lagbaja promised that the GEJ Barracks will be included in the continual infrastructure development taking place inside NA formations.

The Call for Professionalism from COAS:

The Commander-in-Chief, the President, and the Federal Republic of Nigeria Constitution were the focal points of the Army Chief’s appeal for soldiers to stay steadfast in their operational responsibilities. He emphasised how crucial it is to uphold human rights and behave professionally in accordance with international standards.

Prospects for the Future and Welfare Assurance:

Lieutenant General Lagbaja promised that under his command, the Nigerian Army’s welfare will receive the required attention, assuring the troops that the Federal Government is unwavering in its support of them.
