Graduands of the Nigerian Army College of Logistics (NACOL) graduates’ students of Junior Leadership and Staff Officers Course (JLSOC) 1/22 have been urged to make use of the knowledge acquired during the course wherever they are deployed at the permanent site in Ojo.
The Special Guest of Honour (SGOH), the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya, gave the charge while speaking during the graduation ceremony. He expressed delight that he physically witnessed the remarkable occasion in honour of the maiden graduation ceremony of JLSOC 1/22.
Gen. Yahaya emphasised the importance of training and as such, he emphasized the need for all officers to be staff trained irrespective of their commission so as to be better placed to discharge their duties wherever deployed.
He further added that he is confident that the quality of the students graduating has been greatly enhanced for deployment in higher capacities in their various Nigerian Army corps, formations and units.
He therefore urged them to capitalize on the training and leverage on what they have learnt for people to see it reflect in their conduct and staff duties.
He added that the need to train an increasing number of officers currently occupying, or likely to occupy leadership staff appointments in formations and units is crucial to Nigerian Army (NA) capacity to effectively and efficiently conduct operations across the Country. He then reminded the graduating students to be prepared to face the security challenges bedevling the country.
He also urged them to make use of the knowledge they have acquired during the course and also bring their experiences to bear when the need arises.
He therefore thanked the President, Commander in Chief, for the support and confidence he has for the NA and also, the Commandant and his team for their relentless effort and promised to improve on the College facilities.
Earlier during his opening remarks, the Commandant NACOL, Major General Adekunle Adeyinka stated that, the College is indeed deeply appreciative of the confidence reposed in her by the Chief of Army Staff to undertake additional responsibility of handling 2 very important career courses which are Junior Leadership and Staff Officers Course and the Senior Leadership and Staff Officers Course respectively.
More so, he thanked the COAS, for his untiring and inspirational support to the College and for honouring the invitation and also members of the College Board amongst other invited guests. Adding that their presence is a clear indication of how dearly they held the College.
The Commandant further stressed that, the graduating students of the JLSOC 1/22 assembled on 13 Jul 22 with 102 student officers for a 20 weeks of intense classroom and field training activities aimed at improving the students’ professional skills for efficient discharge of their duties in the defence of our nation.
However, only 99 of the officers are graduating. He added that, the graduating class comprises of officers of the rank of captains from virtually every corps in the Nigerian Army.
He assured the COAS that the graduating Officers are well prepared to meet the leadership and staff demands of Nigerian Army corps, formations and units.
Additionally, he urged the graduating students to build on the solid professional foundation laid by the College by making deliberate efforts to always demonstrate a high degree of competence in the discharge of all assigned tasks in the field.
Highlight of the event were, the course highlights by the Deputy Commandant and the Director of Studies, Brigadier General Mohammed Abubakar, conferment of award to graduands, presentation of certificates by the SGOH to graduating students of JLSOC1/22, presentation of honours and awards, presentation of souvenirs to the SGOH by the Commandant, Commissioning of the NACOL Model Room, Cafeteria and it was climax with a group photograph and refreshment at the NACOL Officers’ Mess.
