In the wake of a harrowing incident that claimed the lives of 17 military personnel in Okuama community, Delta State, the Ovie of Umiaghwa Abraka Kingdom, Lucky Ararile, has issued a poignant plea to President Bola Tinubu for the withdrawal of soldiers from the embattled area. The monarch’s impassioned appeal comes amidst escalating tensions and concerns over the military’s role in the region’s security dynamics.

Addressing the tragic loss of lives during a peace mission to Okuama, the traditional ruler expressed profound sorrow, labelling the incident as “an unfortunate situation, regrettable, and condemnable.” In a heartfelt address delivered during a thanksgiving service marking his 12 years on the throne, the Ovie emphasized the need for reconciliation and rebuilding in the aftermath of the violence that rocked the community.

Highlighting the cultural norms of the Urhobo and other ethnic groups in the Niger Delta, the monarch underscored the sanctity of human life and the abhorrence of desecrating the dead. He lamented the gruesome nature of the killings, asserting that such acts are alien to the region’s traditions and values. Despite the tragedy, the Ovie urged residents to strive for resilience and restoration, urging them to reclaim their lives and initiate the process of rebuilding.
