ABUJA, Nigeria โ President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of Nigeria has issued a sombre message in response to the vicious attack on Nigerian troops that occurred during a peacekeeping mission in the Okuoma Community in Delta State. This incident, which occurred on Thursday, March 14, 2024, regrettably resulted in the deaths of numerous soldiers and serves as a reminder of the ongoing challenges that the armed forces of the nation face.

The president decried the unlawful attack that claimed the lives of twelve troops, a civilian, a commanding officer, two majors, and a captain. The incident, which happened when attempts were being made to resolve a disagreement between the Okuama and Okoloba communities, illustrated the hazardous conditions in which Nigerian military work.
President Tinubu sent his deep sorrow and sympathies to the families of the fallen soldiers, reiterating the nation’s resolve to hold those accountable for this heinous act accountable. He reiterated that those responsible for the attack would face the full consequences of their conduct, emphasising the government’s commitment to ensuring each and every citizen’s protection and safety.
The President recognised the military services of Nigeria for their unwavering dedication to protecting the nation and commended them for their bravery and patriotism. He paid tribute to the dead troops, understanding that their death was a symbol of the unselfish service that many men and women in uniform had given.
President Tinubu responded to the atrocity by reiterating the government’s resolve to bring peace and stability back to the nation by empowering the Chief of Defence Staff and Defence Headquarters to take decisive action against the culprits. He vowed to protect justice and the integrity of the armed forces, emphasising that any attack on Nigerian soldiers was an attack on the country.
The horrific military casualties in the Okuoma Community serve as a sombre reminder of the risks that Nigeria’s armed forces invariably face in the course of their work. President Tinubu’s unwavering stance against such acts of violence serves as a reminder of the government’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding national security and ensuring justice for those who have given their lives in service to their country.
