In a groundbreaking collaboration, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has joined forces with the International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) of the United States to inaugurate an exclusive tactical operational training program for Commanders of the newly established Special Intervention Squad (SIS). This joint initiative aligns with the vision of IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun to empower SIS personnel and elevate their professionalism in tackling complex criminal challenges.

The specialized training is meticulously crafted to equip the trainees for the demanding task of spearheading efforts against kidnapping, banditry, armed robbery, terrorism, and other evolving criminal threats in our society. The SIS, which was envisioned to anticipate, respond decisively, and manage crisis situations, plays a pivotal role in safeguarding the lives and property of Nigerians, ensuring the supremacy of the state, upholding the rule of law, and protecting the nation’s integrity.

IGP Egbetokun acknowledged the significant achievements of the FCT-SIS, which include the arrest of 139 kidnapping and armed robbery suspects and the interception of major arms suppliers, and expressed gratitude to the INL for their invaluable partnership. The INL has voluntarily undertaken the responsibility of training SIS officers, as part of their commitment to fostering international cooperation and sharing best practices in law enforcement.

Director Narcotics at the US Embassy, Mr. Jason Smith, who represented the US Ambassador, reaffirmed the U.S. Government’s commitment to supporting the NPF in their obligation of sustaining the SIS and fulfilling its mandate of creating a more secure society for Nigerians.

The Inspector General of Police stated that he anticipates that the specialized training for Commanders will significantly enhance the overall effectiveness of the Special Intervention Squad. This initiative testifies to the dedication of both the NPF and the US Government to collaborative efforts that contribute to the safety of citizens and the upholding of the rule of law within Nigeria.

As the NPF and INL forge this strategic partnership, the Atlantic Post will closely monitor the outcomes of the specialized training, and provide updates on the evolving capabilities of the Special Intervention Squad in fulfilling its critical mission. Stay tuned for further insights into this transformative collaboration.
