Senate summons IGP in 24hours to brief it on ill-treatment of Sen Dino Melaye

* Shuts down plenary for all Senators to visit Sen. Dino

ABUJA – The Senate has summoned the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris to in 24 hours brief it on why Senator Dino Melaye was maltreated by the police despite his status as a federal lawmaker.

The resolution followed a motion by Senator Samuel Anyanwu representing Imo East who lamented that Senators are being treated like common criminals across Nigeria.

Senate President Bukola Saraki at Wednesday’s plenary also says he has been unable to reach IGP Idris Ibrahim in the last 48 hours as the police chief has refused his calls.

Only Senator Kaka Garbai and Senator Abu Ibrahim are allowed to see him according to Senator Bala Na’Allah who earlier led a delegation to the National Hospital.

The Senate delegation were unable to see Senator Dino but later held a meeting with the management of the National Hospital.

The Senate adjourned abruptly for all senators to visit the National Hospital were Senator Dino is under admission. Chairman of the Senate Committee on Police Affairs, Senator Abu Ibrahim was also mandated to ask the IGP to appear at plenary by 11am on Thursday. (TVCNews)
