The Rivers State Government reaffirmed its commitment to prioritize education during the University of Port Harcourt’s 34th Convocation Ceremony, emphasizing academic excellence, facilitating learning environments, and honoring academic achievements. The partnership between the government and the university aims to create a flourishing knowledge atmosphere and develop future leaders, showcasing a dedication to academic achievement.

PORT HARCOURT, Rivers โ In a strong announcement on Saturday, the Rivers State Government (RSG) stressed its unwavering commitment to making education its highest policy priority. During the 34th Convocation Ceremony of the University of Port Harcourt on Saturday, February 24, 2024, Deputy Governor Ngozi Nma Odu, representing the governor, reaffirmed the State’s commitment to support and work with the institution to achieve unprecedented success.
Setting Academic Excellence First:
Despite the University of Port Harcourt being a Federal University, Governor Fubara’s Deputy, Professor Ngozi Nma Odu, conveyed the State Government’s unwavering commitment to fostering a partnership that positions the university as a beacon of academic distinction. The Governor emphasized the reciprocal relationship, stating, “Whenever we add value to this institution, you add double value to whatever we have placed before you.”
Facilitating Learning Environments:
Governor Fubara demonstrated the administration’s commitment to fostering an atmosphere that will make Rivers State a top choice for high-quality education across the nation. He emphasised the ability of education to change people, highlighting how it may spur societal advancement, individual development, and nation-building.
Honouring Academic Achievements:
Governor Fubara congratulated the graduates on their academic achievements and emphasised the value of the information and abilities they had gained while attending the University of Port Harcourt, showcasing them as potential future leaders. He thanked the administration and faculty of the university for their unselfish work in shaping the future generation of leaders.
The University’s Drive for Greatness:
Vice Chancellor Prof. Owunari Georgewill praised the University’s ongoing expansion in his speech, pointing out that it is currently ranked first in Nigeria and 19th in Africa according to recent African rankings. Professor Georgewill reaffirmed the university’s commitment to carrying out its primary missions of entrepreneurship, community service, research, and teaching. He gave his word that the university would continue to uphold its elite standing among Nigerian academic institutions.
Record-breaking Convocation Arena:
As the first of its sort in the area, the Vice Chancellor expressed gratitude to the Rivers State Government for building an ultra-modern convocation venue. The building is a testament to the government’s dedication to provide cutting-edge facilities to assist with academic pursuits.
