ABUJA, FCT Nigeria โ€” The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has responded comprehensively and incisively to recent criticisms from the Federal Government and the All Progressives Congress (APC). The PDP defended its governors and accused President Bola Tinubu and the APC of bringing unprecedented suffering to Nigerians, in a scathing attack.

President Bola Tinubu accused along with his party, APC, of leadership failure by the PDP after APC spokesman Felix Morka berated the PDP governors for asking him to step down. February 19, 2024.

The PDP claimed in a sharply worded statement issued by Hon. Debo Ologunagba, National Publicity Secretary, that the APC’s attack on state governors who are associated with the party is an attempt to deflect attention away from its own shortcomings and demonstrates the ruling party’s fear of being exposed. The APC is accused by the PDP of pulling off several con games and shady transactions, which is what caused Nigerians’ current intolerable hardship.

The PDP is steadfast in its belief that the country’s current economic woes and rising levels of insecurity are entirely the product of the APC and President Tinubu. The party contends that the APC’s effort to assign state governors President Tinubu’s responsibilities is an admission of an inept leader unable to maintain economic stability and security.

President Tinubu, who holds critical portfolios such as security and national economic policies, including the administration of petroleum resources as the Minister of Petroleum Affairs, is directly implicated in what the PDP describes as ill-informed and ill-implemented policies that have devastated the nation. The party contends that such incompetence cannot be transferred to other tiers of government that lack control over national security, fiscal, and monetary policies.

Furthermore, the PDP accuses President Tinubu of presiding over a government marred by corruption and monumental treasury-looting, with state governors having no control over these pervasive issues. The party criticizes the APC for adopting a sordid and depraved approach to deflect public attention from its failures, emphasizing that the Nigerian populace is lamenting the dire situation caused by President Tinubu’s policies.

In a strategic move, the PDP contrasts its own governance, praising its governors for providing quality leadership with life-enhancing projects and programs aligned with the party’s people-oriented manifesto. The statement underscores that only PDP governors and elected officials are commissioning legacy projects, repositioning their states into oases of development.

The PDP concludes by urging Nigerians to hold the APC and President Tinubu accountable for the nation’s suffering. The party warns that it will not hesitate to reveal the names of APC leaders allegedly involved in ongoing treasury-plundering, emphasizing that the APC must not be allowed to “grab, snatch, and run” with the national patrimony at the expense of millions of citizens.
