In a euphoric event held at the Customs Area 11 Command in Onne, Rivers State, 104 officers and men were feted and decorated to mark their recent promotions within the Nigeria Customs Service. The management team of Customs Area 11 and guests from sister agencies graced the occasion, which constituted a noteworthy acknowledgment of the officers’ commitment and accomplishments.
Controller’s Welcome Address:
Comptroller Baba Imam, the Controller of Customs Area 11, Onne, while welcoming attendees at the event, emphasized that the purpose was to celebrate and decorate those who excelled in the recent promotion exercise. He acknowledged the competitiveness of promotions, urging those who were not promoted this time to maintain hope for future opportunities.
Guidance for the Promoted:
Imam, in his admonition to the promoted officers, stressed that promotion is a privilege, not a right. He underscored the increased expectations from the Service, stakeholders, and the public for those elevated in rank. He emphasized the importance of ethics and principles and urged them to be role models of integrity, and to seek guidance from colleagues.
Trade Facilitation Focus:
The newly promoted officers were charged to prioritize trade facilitation by eliminating bureaucratic bottlenecks and obstacles. Imam highlighted the key role of trade facilitation in their operations and encouraged them to contribute to the seamless clearance procedures.
Recognition and Breakdown of Promotions:
Among other people, 24 Chief Superintendents of Customs were promoted to Assistant Comptrollers, 8 Assistant Comptrollers to Deputy Comptrollers, and 4 former Deputy Comptrollers of Customs to Comptrollers, as shown in the breakdown of promotions.
Thank You and Promise of Allegiance:
Commandant GJ Kashim from the Nigerian Navy, in a goodwill message, commended the synergy between the Navy and Customs. He praised Comptroller Baba Imam for fostering a robust relationship. Speaking on behalf of the promoted officers, CSC JN Ewere expressed gratitude to God and Customs leadership for taking them to the next level. He pledged unwavering commitment and loyalty to the Nigeria Customs Service.
Promotion as a Sign of Good Things:
Commander GJ Kashim encouraged those not promoted to trust in God, emphasizing that God’s time is the best. He interpreted the ceremony as a positive omen for the future, reinforcing the idea that good things are in store for the promoted officers.
The ceremony not only celebrated professional advancements but also reinforced the commitment of the newly promoted officers to uphold the values of the Nigeria Customs Service as they continue their duty in service to the nation.
