FCT Administration Warns Contractors Against Seeking Contract Variations Amidst Project Delays
ABUJA, FCT — In a recent inspection of ongoing projects in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Minister Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike reiterated the FCT Administration’s unwavering stance against any form of variation to existing contracts. This stern warning comes in response to Setraco Construction Company’s request for a variation in the contract for the construction of the Southern Parkway, a project already scheduled for completion by May 2024.

During the inspection, Barr. Wike stressed that the FCTA had established clear funding patterns with contractors, facilitating payments as agreed to ensure timely project completion. He expressed dissatisfaction with Setraco’s request for variation, specifically for the inclusion of streetlights, deeming it unacceptable given the adherence to the agreed-upon funding model.
The Minister emphasized, “There cannot be any variation on that project, and if they don’t complete it on time, I’m going to blacklist the company. Nobody will toy with us; nobody will try to outsmart us. We are not going to accept it.”
Barr. Wike further highlighted the FCT Administration’s commitment to meeting project deadlines and implied that contractors failing to adhere to schedules might face blacklisting. He underscored the seriousness of the matter, emphasizing the need for contractors to fulfill their obligations promptly.
The inspection covered various project sites, including the Provision of Engineering Infrastructure to Guzape Lot II, roads, and engineering infrastructure to the new layout and Diplomatic area, as well as the development of the Arterial Road N 20. The Minister expressed satisfaction with the progress and quality of work, assuring that projects would be completed by May 2024 to coincide with the President’s one-year mark in office.
Barr. Wike commended the efforts of construction companies such as Setraco and Gilmor, acknowledging the transformative impact their projects would have on the FCT’s landscape. He expressed happiness with the quality of work being done and promised to meet the completion targets set by the President.
As the FCT Administration remains steadfast in its stance against variations, it sends a clear message to contractors to uphold agreed-upon terms and deliver projects on schedule. The FCT Minister’s commitment to accountability and adherence to contract agreements aims to ensure the efficient and timely development of the region.
