Dutse, the capital of Jigawa State in Nigeria, has seen a significant increase in the price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) with the price reaching N340 per litre. The price hike has caused chaos and hardship for residents and motorists, particularly due to the scarcity of the commodity.
As observed by a News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) correspondent, filling stations in the city have experienced long queues of vehicles as residents scramble to refuel their tanks. Most of the stations in the city were selling the product at the exorbitant price of N340 per litre, with the Dutse NNPC mega station retail stations remaining closed since January 8th following a fire outbreak.
Furthermore, many of the filling stations within the city remained closed for an extended period, leading to further dissatisfaction among motorists and commercial motorcyclists. Despite the situation, the managements of the filling stations declined to comment on the situation as they stated they were not authorized to speak to the press.
In response to the scarcity and high cost of PMS, motorists have expressed their frustration over the non-availability of the product. They have called on the Federal Government and relevant authorities to take measures to ensure that security agencies monitor the filling stations and enforce approved prices for the product.
Additionally, the situation has also affected local farmers, with Ahmad Rufa’i, a farmer, stating that the price hike was causing him to incur losses. He expressed concern over the uncertainty surrounding the cost of fuel and its impact on his farming operations.
It is dangerous that the hike in PMS prices has disrupted normalcy in Dutse and causing chaos and hardships for residents and motorists.
The Federal Government and relevant authorities are consequently called upon to take immediate action to address the situation and bring lasting solutions to the chaos.
