The Army War College Nigeria (AWCN) has started its Internal Security Study Tour (ISST) to Operation SAFE HAVEN in the Plateau State and Operation WHIRL PUNCH in Kaduna. Monday, March 25, 2024.

The ISST is an essential part of the Interagency Corporation and Coordination in Military Operations Module and is a significant part of the College curriculum, according to a statement made by Major Hashimu Sa’ad Abdullahi, the College Public Relations Officer.

Along with experiencing the operational dynamics of internal security measures, participants will gain insight into the complex issues that arise in joint and interagency operations. They will be able to deal with the difficulties of coordinating operations between several military branches and with civil authorities by actively participating in field operations.

Through this immersive experience, they will get practical insights and techniques for dealing with modern security challenges, as well as a thorough grasp of the delicate balance needed to properly protect national interests.

Leading this historic visit is AWCN Commandant Major General Ishaya Maina, who also serves as Exercise Director, ensuring the visit is carried out with great care. Team 1 will be led by Brigadier General Aminu Umar, the Deputy Commandant and Director of Studies, and Team 2 will be led by Brigadier General MO Edide, the Director of War and Strategy. These leaders will make sure that every detail of the tour is in line with the learning goals that the College has established.

In addition to the seventy-five military personnel, 42 people from important Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) in Nigeria are part of the tour. Members of the Nigerian Police are among them, as are officials from the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, Nigeria Customs Service, Nigeria Immigration Service, and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.

As the ISST develops, it serves as both an important instructional project and evidence of the AWCN and the Chief of Army Staff’s dedication to preserving national security via awareness, collaboration, and readiness.

Thanks to the combined experience of participants with a range of military and civilian backgrounds, the tour is expected to produce priceless insights, long-lasting collaborations, and concrete steps for addressing the always changing security issues.
