FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has strongly refuted charges that he surreptitiously donated 41 valuable plots of land to his two sons as “a sponsored smear campaign” planned by a “failed politician from Adamawa State” in a scorching retort that has sent waves through Abuja’s power corridors.

During a media interview in Abuja on Thursday, Wike accused his critics of spreading false claims to harm his name, claiming that “no such allocations ever took place”.

These claims come after a flurry of sensationalised reports, some of which include the transfer of 2,082 hectares over Asokoro and Maitama, none of which Wike claims are factual.

He scathingly criticised the unidentified source behind the narrative, refusing to reveal the sponsor since “it contributes nothing to national development”.

However, this intentional silence has further encouraged rumours that powerful forces are conspiring to undermine his rule.

By dragging a seasoned public servant into a web of unproven charges, Wike’s accusers risk weakening public trust in the Federal Capital Territory’s land management.

As the dispute rages, critics warn that the true victims may be Abuja’s millions of citizens, who are left wondering if political vendettas now govern who gets the city’s precious real estate.

This unfolding controversy calls into question not only Wike’s reputation, but also the opaque rules that govern land allocation in Nigeria’s seat of power.
