In a monumental operational breakthrough, gallant troops of the 6 Division, Nigerian Army, achieved a resounding success by dismantling a clandestine illegal oil bunkering site at Umuedeokwara Community, Odogwa Town in Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State. The meticulously executed operation, which was driven by credible intelligence, showcased the military’s commitment to curbing criminal activities that threaten national resources and security.
The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 6 Division, Nigerian Army/Land Component Commander, Joint Task Force, Operation DELTA SAFE, Major General Jamal Abdusalam, personally visited the location to assess the magnitude of criminalities perpetrated at the site.
In an astonishing revelation to reporters on-site, the GOC expressed his disbelief at the extent of criminality uncovered. “We are here to let Nigerians know what is happening here. In fact, even if you use the air, using a helicopter or drone, you won’t be able to see what we saw on the ground,” he emphasized. The discovery included an elaborate network of reservoirs, boilers, pipes, and cables indicative of an organized and extensive illegal oil bunkering operation.
Major General Abdusalam stressed the critical impact of crude oil production on the national economy, stating that any drop in production directly affects the nation’s budget. The uncovered site revealed a shocking cache of crude oil, with a total of 19 reservoirs, each containing a minimum of 200,000 liters. This translates to over 3,000,000 liters of illegally obtained crude oil, posing a severe threat to the economic stability of the nation.
Expressing his concern, the GOC condemned the involvement of individuals in crimes that jeopardize the nation’s economy. “We have discovered so many illegalities taking place here. We have seen reservoirs, boilers with a network of pipes and cables, amongst others,” he decried.
The GOC used the opportunity to issue a stern warning to the perpetrators, urging them to abandon criminal activities and embrace legitimate businesses for their livelihood. He emphasized that the military would not relent in its efforts to deny criminals the freedom to operate and would collaborate with relevant agencies to destroy the illegal bunkering site.
The operation resulted in the arrest of six suspects involved in the illegal oil bunkering operation, with ongoing efforts to apprehend others connected to this audacious criminal enterprise. As the military continues to strike against such mindless criminality, the Atlantic Post remains committed to keeping Nigerians informed about developments that impact national security and resources.
