In a significant move to fortify the intelligence capabilities of the Nigeria Police Force, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun has mandated the deployment of Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) to oversee the Intelligence Department at both Zonal and State Commands throughout the country.
This strategic posting aligns with the IGP’s commitment to revitalize and enhance the efficiency of the Intelligence Department across all levels of the Force. The decision reflects his vision to curtail the rising crime rate in the nation, emphasizing the pivotal role intelligence plays in law enforcement.
Upon assuming office, IGP Egbetokun took proactive steps by reactivating the Presidential approval to elevate the Force Intelligence Bureau to the status of a Department. This restructuring saw the appointment of DIG Habu Sanni as the head of the newly formed Department of Force Intelligence.
The newly assigned ACPs have been entrusted with the crucial responsibility of leveraging intelligence-based assets to combat crimes and criminality within their respective areas of jurisdiction. The IGP emphasized the need for these senior officers to instill professionalism and apply their extensive experience in reinforcing the existing intelligence architecture of the Force.
This development comes as part of the IGP’s broader vision to create a robust and adaptive security apparatus capable of addressing the evolving challenges in the nation’s security landscape.
Key Points:
- Strategic Deployment: 54 ACPs will assume leadership roles in the Intelligence Department at Zonal and State Commands nationwide, underlining the IGP’s commitment to a comprehensive approach to law enforcement.
