ASABA, Delta โ Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has boldly warned traditional rulers in response to the terrible deaths of four military officers and thirteen soldiers in Okuama village, Ughelli South Local Government Area, Delta State. He underlined the importance of respecting the rule of law and warned them against providing cover to suspects in the horrific crime.

At the State Traditional Rulers’ Council Secretariat in Asaba, Governor Oborevwori gave a speech to traditional rulers in which he denounced the horrific occurrence, calling it cruel and unacceptable. He declared that the perpetrators of the act needed to be apprehended as soon as possible.
The Governor sent a very clear message to the traditional rulers: No kingdom should harbour those who commit acts of such violence. He underscored the importance of adhering to the principles of law and human decency in Delta State.
Governor Oborevwori highlighted the steps taken by his administration following the tragic event, including engagements with security officials, briefings with national authorities, and visits to affected areas. He assured that every effort would be made to ensure that the culprits face the full consequences of their actions.
His Royal Majesty, Maj. Gen. Felix Mujakperuo (retd), Chairman of the Delta State Traditional Rulers Council, responded to the Governor’s request for cooperation by reiterating their commitment to advancing peace and security in the state. He expressed the same views as the governor and emphasised the need for cooperation in handling the situation.
Additionally, Governor Oborevwori addressed the Delta State Advisory and Peace Building Council, urging members to advocate for peace among the populace. He underlined how important it is to keep things tranquil in order to draw in investment and promote state growth.
Professor Sam Oyovbaire, the chairman of the Council, urged communities throughout Delta State to prioritise unity for the state’s overall success and praised the governor for his proactive commitment to peace-building activities.
Governor Oborevwori’s unwavering attitude sends a clear message that violence will not be condoned in Delta State and that those involved will face legal consequences, even as investigations into the horrific occurrence continue. The traditional leaders’ and community members’ appeal for collaboration and unity highlights everyone’s shared responsibility for preserving the peace and security in the area.
