President Muhammadu Buhari has condoles with the family of the late Sen. Olabiyi Durojaiye, describing the passing of the elder statesman as a great loss to the nation, while keeping silent on Tuesday terror attack on the nation’s premier military institution, the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA).

According to another statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, the president also found time, in spite of the national pandemonium, to warmly felicitates with former Permanent Secretary, State House, Nebolisa Emodi on his 60th birthday, August 25, 2021, congratulating the career public servant for diligence, dedication and commitment to nation building.

The President also commiserates with the government and people of Ogun State, as well as friends and political associates on the loss of the man he calls, “a dogged fighter for democracy, an activist, a nationalist and an indispensable member of the financial community.”

On Sen. Durojaiye, President Buhari said his imprints were always visible where he worked as a director of the Central Bank of Nigeria, at the Mint, and as Chairman of Nigerian Communications Commission, stressing that he remained an epitome of professionalism, integrity, kindness and humility.

President Buhari said he believes the late Senator Durojaiye’s commitment to democratic ideals was never in doubt, recalling the prominent roles he played as a member of NADECO in fighting for justice towards the actualisation of the memorable June 12 election.

As the President prayed for the repose of the soul of the departed, he urged the family to take solace in the fact that their patriarch lived a life of inspiration and impacted positively on the community and national landscapes.

For the retired permanent secretary, the president sent greetings to family members, friends and professional associates of the engineer and administrator, who played a significant role in design and realization of infrastructure in the country, particularly in the Ministry of Transportation where he supervised efforts to resuscitate the railway system.

As the Permanent Secretary that ensured smooth transition at the State House after the 2015 elections, President Buhari noted Emodi’s maturity, focus and skill in handling technical and sensitive government issues, demonstrating a high sense of loyalty and patriotism by placing the interest of the country above personal needs and gains.

President Buhari affirmed that the former Permanent Secretary had always distinguished himself and shone brightly.

The President prayed for his good health, strength and longer life.

Nevertheless, everyone still await President Buhari’s address on the latest terror attack on a major military formation by suspected belligerent forces he choose to call bandits.
