ASABA, Delta โ€” The Nigeria Police Force is in deep sorrow over the deaths of six brave officers who were brutally killed while on a mission in Delta State. This is a tragic turn of events. The officers, displaying exceptional courage, fell victim to a cowardly ambush by armed assailants while investigating the disappearance and rescue of their colleagues in the Ohoro Forest. Six others are currently missing-in-action, adding to the tragic toll of the incident.

The fallen heroes have been identified as Inspector Abe Olubunmi, Inspector Friday Irorere, Sergeant Kuden Elisha, Sergeant Akpan Aniette, Sergeant Ayere Paul, and Sergeant Ejemito Friday. Additionally, Inspector Onoja Daniel, Inspector Onogho Felix, Inspector Emmanuel Okoroafor, Inspector Joel Hamidu, Sergeant Moses Eduvie, and Sergeant Cyril Okorie are currently listed as missing-in-action.

In response to this profound loss, the Nigeria Police Force is determined to honor the memory of these brave officers. On April 5, 2024, in Abuja, during the Nigeria Police Awards and Commendations Ceremony, the Force will honour their devotion and ultimate sacrifice posthumously.

In the wake of the tragedy, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, the Inspector General of Police, has moved quickly. Six cops’ bodies have been found, and searches are being conducted to find the other officers. In addition, in an effort to lessen the financial strain on the families of the slain officers during this difficult time, the IGP has mandated the expedited processing and payment of all entitlements due to them.

Five individuals in relation to the horrific incident have been apprehended in the quest of justice. In its pursuit of holding the offenders accountable, the Nigeria Police Force is not stopping at any costs, allocating all the manpower and resources required to guarantee prompt and forceful action.

The Nigeria Police Force is unwavering in its commitment to maintaining peace and order in spite of the difficulties encountered by law enforcement officers. The recent events serve as a clear reminder of the risks that law enforcement officials face while performing their duties, but their dedication to safeguarding the public is unshakable.

The Inspector General of Police calls on the public to assist the Nigeria Police Force in capturing the offenders and denounces any additional attacks on law enforcement officers. All around the country, there will be peace and security as justice is carried out.

It is crucial to remember these brave officers’ unshakeable commitment to serving and protecting their communities, while the country grieves their loss.
