ABUJA FCT, Nigeria โ In a significant endorsement of President Bola Tinubu’s first year in office, Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), lauded Tinubuโs performance, highlighting several infrastructural achievements and renewed hope among Nigerians. Wike made these remarks on Monday, May 27, following his inspection of the Abuja Light Rail before its commercial operation kick-off, a key milestone commemorating Tinubuโs administration.

Tinubu’s Commitment to Democratic Dividends
During the inspection, Wike expressed his satisfaction with the tangible progress made under Tinubu’s leadership. “President Bola Tinubu has performed admirably, considering his relatively short time in office,” Wike declared. He emphasized the president’s dedication to delivering the dividends of democracy, a commitment that has significantly revitalized the optimism of Nigerians.
Wike urged the populace to continue supporting Tinubu’s administration to ensure the realization of its objectives. “We are happy now. All our efforts have come to fruition. Abuja residents are delighted,” Wike stated. He stressed that the completion of the Abuja Metro Station was a promise made and a promise kept, reflecting the presidentโs commitment to infrastructure and human capital development.
Infrastructure Projects as Pillars of Progress
The celebration of Tinubu’s one-year tenure is marked by a series of high-profile infrastructure projects across the FCT. These projects symbolize the administration’s resolve to enhance urban development and improve the quality of life for residents. Wike highlighted several key initiatives scheduled for commissioning:

Renewed Hope for Civil Servants and Citizens
Wike noted that the achievements under Tinubuโs administration have rekindled hope among civil servants and the general populace. “Nothing in this world can hinder your career progression,” he remarked, emphasizing the positive impact on civil servants in the FCT who now see a brighter future. This renewed hope is crucial for fostering a motivated and productive workforce, essential for national development.
Realistic Expectations for the Future
While acknowledging the significant progress made, Wike also pointed out that one year is insufficient to achieve 100% of the administrationโs goals. However, the groundwork laid provides a strong foundation for continued development. “There are some areas we still need to address, but for what we have seen so far, there is genuine hope for Nigerians,” Wike assured.
Comprehensive Urban Development Strategy
The scheduled projects underscore a strategic approach to urban development, addressing critical areas such as transportation, infrastructure, and public facilities. The completion of these projects is expected to alleviate traffic congestion, enhance public safety, and improve overall living conditions in the FCT.
The Abuja Light Rail, in particular, is a transformative project aimed at easing urban mobility. Its operational launch signifies a major advancement in the capitalโs transportation network, providing residents with a reliable and efficient transit option. This project, along with others, exemplifies Tinubuโs vision for a modern and accessible urban environment.
The Role of Community Support
Wikeโs call for continued support from Nigerians is pivotal for the success of these initiatives. Community engagement and cooperation are essential for the smooth implementation and sustainability of infrastructural projects. By fostering a collaborative environment, the administration aims to ensure that development efforts benefit all stakeholders and contribute to the overall progress of the nation.
Conclusion: A Year of Promises Fulfilled and Hope Rekindled
As President Bola Tinubu marks his first year in office, the commendations from Minister Nyesom Wike highlight a period of significant achievements and renewed hope. The administration’s focus on delivering democratic dividends through comprehensive infrastructure projects underscores its commitment to improving the lives of Nigerians.
The commissioning of multiple projects across the FCT serves as a testament to the administrationโs dedication to urban development and public welfare. As these projects come to fruition, they not only enhance the capitalโs infrastructure but also symbolize the broader aspirations of the Tinubu administration.
In the coming years, continued community support and strategic planning will be crucial for sustaining this momentum and achieving even greater milestones. With a clear vision and a commitment to progress, the administration is poised to deliver on its promises and build a brighter future for Nigeria.
