In a shocking twist to the tragic demise of Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, an autopsy report has unveiled a potential cause of his death: a severe drug reaction. The 27-year-old Nigerian singer’s untimely death on September 12, 2023, has been a subject of widespread speculation and controversy. Now, recent findings from the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) suggest that a fatal anaphylactic shock or drug reaction could be responsible.

Revealing the Truth: Mohbad’s Death Linked to Possible Drug Reaction, Autopsy Suggests.

A Tragic Loss

Mohbad, an emerging star formerly signed to Naira Marley’s record label, Marlian Music, passed away under mysterious circumstances that have left fans and the music community in shock. His sudden death prompted an outcry for justice and clarity, leading to an intensive investigation.

Autopsy Findings: Anaphylactic Shock Suspected

According to a detailed report obtained from LASUTH, the autopsy and toxicology tests indicated that Mohbad might have suffered a fatal anaphylactic shock or drug reaction. Anaphylactic shock is a severe allergic reaction that can be life-threatening if not treated promptly. The tests revealed traces of Diphenhydramine, an antihistamine commonly used to treat allergies, colds, and anxiety, in Mohbad’s blood system.

Despite finding Diphenhydramine in his system, the autopsy report clarified that the concentration of the drug was not lethal. This revelation adds a layer of complexity to the case, suggesting that while the drug was present, it might not have been the sole cause of death.

Detailed Autopsy Procedure

The autopsy, conducted eight days after Mohbad’s burial, involved retrieving samples of his gastric contents, blood, bone marrow, liver, kidney, and lung for toxicology tests. The delayed exhumation led to moderate to severe decomposition of his body, complicating the investigation. Despite these challenges, the medical team was able to gather crucial information.

“It is noteworthy that the body neither had an autopsy nor was embalmed prior to interment on the second day,” the report stated. “Following the Order for Exhumation, the body was exhumed on 21/09/2023 (8 days after the burial). Autopsy revealed moderate to marked decomposition of organs. Apart from the superficial injury on the right forearm, no significant gross finding could be attributed to death.”

Challenges in Determining Cause of Death

One of the significant obstacles faced by the medical examiners was the inability to take timely blood samples, which are crucial in confirming a fatal anaphylactic shock. The report emphasized that the burial on the second day prevented this critical step. As a result, the exact cause of death remains inconclusive, although the possibility of a fatal drug reaction is strongly considered.

“Toxicology revealed positive findings of Diphenhydramine, an anti-histamine; however, this concentration was not in a fatal or lethal range,” the report added. “In determining fatal anaphylactic shock, a blood sample needs to be taken as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, this was prevented or made impossible by the burial of the deceased on the second day. In the light of the foregoing, the cause of death could not be ascertained.”

Investigations and Arrests

In the wake of Mohbad’s death, the Lagos State Police Command established a 13-member special investigation team on September 18, 2023, to delve into the circumstances surrounding his demise. This move followed public outrage and demand for a thorough investigation. The incident also led to the arrest of several individuals, including Naira Marley and Balogun Eletu, also known as Sam Larry.

The exhumation of Mohbad’s body on September 21, 2023, was a significant step in the investigation. The need to determine the cause of death spurred extensive forensic and toxicological analysis, both locally and internationally.

Discrepancies and Controversies

Adding to the intrigue, the counsel for the Lagos state government, O. Akinde, informed the Coroner’s Court in Ikorodu in November 2023 that a toxicology test was conducted in the United States. However, this claim was refuted by the management of the National Medical Services Laboratories in Pennsylvania, who denied conducting any such test. This discrepancy has fueled further speculation and calls for transparency in the investigation.

Public and Family Reactions

Mohbad’s family and fans have been vocal about their quest for justice and truth. The autopsy report, while providing some answers, has also raised more questions about the circumstances leading to his death. The revelation of a possible drug reaction has shifted the focus to understanding the events that transpired before his demise.

A Call for Justice

The death of Mohbad has highlighted broader issues within the Nigerian music industry, including the well-being of artists and the potential hazards they face. As the investigation continues, there is a growing call for stringent measures to protect artists and ensure their safety.

Conclusion: The Quest for Truth Continues

The autopsy report on Mohbad’s death has provided crucial insights but also underscored the complexities of determining the exact cause. While a fatal drug reaction remains a possibility, the lack of timely blood sampling has left many questions unanswered. As authorities continue their investigation, the hope is that justice will be served, and the truth about Mohbad’s tragic death will be fully uncovered.
