Port Harcourt, State of Rivers – In Rivers State, Governor Siminalayi Fubara has sworn in the nine commissioners who resigned amid the political unrest that almost toppled the state. On Friday, the Government House in Port Harcourt hosted the solemn service.
The governor asked the commissioners to make sure that their contributions to history are remembered positively in a speech delivered soon after they took the oath of office.
Governor Fubara, acknowledging the challenges faced by the returning commissioners during the political turmoil, expressed goodwill towards their renewed appointments. He encouraged them to stand for justice and the interests of the state, emphasizing that their purpose is to serve the people of Rivers State.
“I wish you well in your coming back. Stand for justice, and stand for the interests of our dear state. That is the purpose of your appointment and that is the truth,” Governor Fubara stated. He acknowledged the weight on their hearts, assuring them that he harbors no ill feelings towards any of them, considering the circumstances they found themselves in during the crossfire of political conflicts.
Reflecting on the importance of their responsibilities, Governor Fubara urged the commissioners to give their best to the state. He emphasized the need for them to be remembered for the positive impact they make during their tenure. “I will advise that you give your best. Like I said the first time, let this State and posterity remember you for what is good,” he added.
The Governor’s charge to the commissioners echoes a call for a commitment to justice, service to the state’s interests, and the creation of a legacy marked by positive contributions.
