#EdoDecides2020: PDP releases timeline of its huge campaign progress

The Peoples Democratic Party released the following as the timeline of the huge progress the Godwin Obaseki campaign has made since its launch.

“The journey to Osadebe Avenue began with the PDP campaign flag off on July 25, 2020 at the Lawn Tennis Court of the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City, Edo State.

“The Edo State 2020 Guber Campaign immediately set out for the ward to ward campaign to intimate Edo people on the achievements of Governor Godwin Obaseki in the last four years from 2016 to 2020 and his programmes and policies for the next four years if elected as Governor of Edo state.

“In line with the time table for the state, the ward to ward campaign tours of Governor Obaseki began from Edo North.

Day 1: Monday August 3, 2020 – Akoko Edo

“Governor Godwin Obaseki, his deputy, Comrade Philip Shaibu, the Chairman of the Edo State campaign council, Chief Dan Orbih and other major stakeholders of the party from the zone joined the governor and his team as they crisscross the wards in Edo North.

“The first point of call was the meeting with Traditional Rulers at Otaru’s Palace, Igarra, Akoko Edo.

“Before the arrival of the Governor and his team, the traditional rulers where already gathered and waiting patiently to receive the Governor and the PDP campaign team.

“On arrival at the Otaru’s palace, Governor Obaseki after all the traditional rites and greetings informed the Royal Highnesses on the purpose of his visit.

“He told them that the people of Edo state are witnesses to the progress the government of the state has been making in the last four years under his stewardship.

“Governor Obaseki stated that the state wouldn’t have made such progress except for the support of the traditional rulers.

“He thanked the royal highnesses for the support they gave to him and his government during the outbreak of covid19, particularly how they mobilized and sensitized the people in their various kingdoms.

“Finally, Governor Obaseki told the Royal highnesses the reason for his visit and informed them that he came to seek their support and prayers to contest as Governor of the state for the second term in line with the constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria.

“Responding, the Otaru of Igara welcomed the Governor and his team to Igara, Akoko Edo. He prayed God to guide him and his team in all their ways.

“Before handing over the mic to the chairman of Akoko Edo traditional rulers to tell the governor the immediate needs of the LGA, the Otaru of Igara advised Governor Obaseki not to be discourage in telling the youths in the state to desist from thuggery and violent behaviors, saying that the era of political bitterness and thuggery are gone.

“The chairman of Akoko Edo traditional rulers thanked the governor for the proactive steps he took at the outbreak of covid19. He also thanked the governor for removing value added tax (VAT), from their remunerations, saying that such action has helped to better the livelihood of the people of the kingdom and Edo state in general.

“The chairman then enumerated the various needs of the LGA to the governor, believing that Governor Obaseki will fulfill some of the needs if not all, saying that he will be returned as governor in the coming election on September 19, 2020.

“From the palace, Governor Obaseki and his team moved to wards 1 & 2, Dagbala Ward 5, Ososo Ward 10 and Ekpedo Ward 9.

“In all the wards visited during the tour of Edo north, the governor told the people his intention to run again as governor of Edo state in line with the Constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria.

“He enumerated his achievements in Akoko Edo and promised the people better living conditions, road rehabilitations and constant electricity, etc. He added that if elected as governor of the state for the second time, he will not only continue the good work he is doing, but that he will do more to better the life of the people of the state. He had resounding welcome from the people in all the wards visited.

“One of the major take home in the wards visited was the decamping of APC leaders and members to the PDP, especially the ward and LGA executives of the APC.

“The leaders of the APC in the various wards in Edo north came out during the tour and publicly tour their membership cards as a way of denouncing their membership of the APC.

Day 2, Tuesday 4th August, 2020.

“Governor Obaseki and the PDP leaders continued with the tours of wards in Akoko Edo LGA on Tuesday, August 4, 2020.

“The first was Lampese Ward 3. The preparation was massive as PDP members, supporters and passerby throng the venue to welcome the Governor and his team.

“Before the arrival of the governor, a coffin was designed with APC written on it to show that the opposition APC is dead and buried in Lampese, Akoko Edo in particular and Edo state in general.

“The message of the Governor was the same as the Deputy Governor, Comrade Philip Shaibu and other party leaders, especially the Chairman of the campaign in the state, Chief Dan Orbih added colour to the campaign with the pepper them dance.

“The campaign team on Tuesday also went to, Ibillo Ward 4, Aiyegunle  Ward 7, Okpe Ward 6 and Egbigere Ward 8.

“At Okpe, the team made a stop at the palace of Okpe to inform the royal highness of the intention of Governor Obaseki to contest as Governor of the state for the second term.

Day 3, Etsako East LGA. Wednesday 5th August, 2020.

“The first point of call was the visit of the governor to the palace of Ogiepa of Epa, Weppa Wanno, to pay homage and to inform the royal highness of his intention to contest as governor of Edo state in the September 19, 2020 election.

“The Governor was also at the palace to tell the people officially that his new party is the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and not the failed All Progressives Congress (APC). He asked for the support of the royal highness and promised to develop agriculture and the water ways in the area.

“The campaign team also moved to Ward 4 and ward 1.  Ward 1 is the ward of the Chairman of Edo North Elders Forum and chairman emeritus of DAAR communications PLC, High Chief Engr. Raymond Dokpesi.

“High Chief Dokpesi welcomed the Governor to his ward and promised to deliver eight thousand votes  out of the eight thousand five hundred registered voters in the ward for the PDP and Governor Obaseki in the coming Guber election.

“The Governor’s team also paid a Courtesy Call on the Okumagbe of Uwanno. The Okumagbe endorsed the Governor and his deputy for second term and prayed for their successes during the coming election. The Governor was decorated with a traditional title of High Chief of Uwanno.

“The campaign train departed from the palace to Ward 2, Ward 3, Okpekpe Ward 10 and a Courtesy call on the Onwueweko of Okpekpe. The Onwueweko welcomed the Governor and his team and particularly requested for the construction of the road leading to the palace.

“He informed the governor that the road linking the LGA capital, Agenebode to Okpekpe was truncated because it was a PTF project and urged the governor to revisit the matter so that indigenes of the LGA will not have to go through two LGAs before getting to Okpekpe.

“From the palace, the team went to Imiegba Ward 9 and Ogiega.

“However, the second leg of the campaign in Etsako East was postponed due to the invasion of the Edo state house of assembly by APC thugs and men of the Nigeria Police Force.

“The thugs and Police invaded the assembly complex at the early hours of Thursday 6th August 2020, by some former members of the Edo state house of assembly, an action that was condemned by well meaning Nigerians.

“In response to the invasion of Edo state house of assembly, youths, women and leaders of Edo North also protested to the office of the Police Area Command in Agenebode to register  their displeasures. The protest letter from the people of Edo North was received by the area commander, ACP Joseph Agini.”
