A large number of poor workers, primarily women, have lost their income as many garment producing factories have reduced or temporarily suspended their activities. Some have closed entirely.
The Executive Director of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), Dr. Natalia Kanem, has said that hundreds of thousands of women continue to die each year from preventable causes. According to the UN agency, data from 2017 show that approximately 810 women die each day of preventable causes related to pregnancy and childbirth.
