It was all football flair on Saturday night as 4 legends of premier league’s elite club, Manchester United, briefly came out of retirement to show off the stuff they are made of in the Soccer Aid 2021 match.
David Beckham watched the match which took place at the Etihad Stadium from the stands while 3 of his former teammates were in action on the pitch, in addition to another former United superstar, Patrice Evra.
England’s central defence had Gary Neville who featured alongside Jamie Carragher while Wayne Rooney and Paul Scholes partnered each other in the midfield, the later exhibiting his incredible long range passing skills as usual.
The younger Evra featured at the left-full-back position for the Rest of the World XI with a better performance in a couple of individual battles against Neville.
UNICEF ambassador Beckham who watched from the stands gave his thoughts on the 3 United players in action for England.
“I mean to be honest, when you look at someone like Scholes, you never lose that kind of pass,” he told ITV. at half-time “He’s pinging balls here, there and everywhere.
“With Wayne, Wayne’s always going to be dangerous on the ball and Gazza (Neville) has looked comfortable at the back with Carra.
“But I think they’re looking pretty good.”
The World XI scored 3 times in the second half to make it back-to-back wins at Soccer Aid. Kem Cetinay scored two with comedian Lee Mack getting a late third.
United called for donations to Soccer Aid on its website, saying “every £1 you donate doubled by the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation, to help UNICEF deliver 2 billion COVID-19 vaccines worldwide, get kids back to school, beat malnutrition and get the healthcare they need.”
